Building the HSFGR Barn

The ideas behind HSFGR reach back roughly six years before its public introduction, shaped quietly over time through both practical work and long-term preservation concerns.

April 25, 2019 | I said it out loud, my thought of starting a new registry.

Circa 2020 | Conception and Early Vision

The earliest ideas behind what would eventually become HSFGR began taking shape. The vision grew out of years spent raising, observing, and evaluating silky-coated fainting goats, along with a growing concern that important heritage traits, Myotonic foundation, and traditional breed character needed to be more intentionally recognized and preserved.

2020-2025 | Years of Observation, Discussion, and Comparison

Over the following years, the concept continued to develop through herd evaluation, historical review, breeder conversations, comparison of registry directions, and long-term reflection on what kind of registry structure would best support preservation-focused goals.

Early Development | Advisory Input and Long-Term Planning

Trusted conversations, breeder input, and long-term planning all played a role in shaping the registry’s direction. While HSFGR ultimately reflects its own clearly defined mission, it did not come together in a vacuum.

February 7, 2021 | New FB Group Added for Eventual Transition

A FB group was created for breeders with the plan that it would transition over as the official group for the new registry.

March 18, 2021 | Early Registry Naming and Initial Website Planning

In the early stages of development, the registry concept carried a different name, The United Silky Fainting Goat Coalition, and a domain was secured while the first version of the website was being built.

2022 | Registry Infrastructure Planning Begins

Planning began on registry infrastructure, including recordkeeping systems, forms, certificate workflows, and long-term plans for a public database designed to support members and preserve registry integrity.

2022-2024 | Formation of the Registry Concept and Structure

As the idea matured, it became clear that the heart of the mission kept returning to the same central ideas: heritage, preservation, and the need to intentionally recognize and protect the traits that shaped these goats from the beginning. That growing clarity eventually led to the Heritage Silky Fainting Goat Registry name and identity.

2022-2024 | Standards and Registry Philosophy Take Shape

HSFGR’s breed standards, registry goals, and written philosophy began to take more concrete form, with emphasis on structure, reproductive soundness, type, coat, temperament, and preserving a clearly Myotonic foundation.

2022-2025 | Historical Research and Clarification of Breed Roots

Growing emphasis was placed on documenting the broader historical silky population and the role of long-haired Landrace Myotonic goats in that history. HSFGR’s framework was shaped around the understanding that silky-coated fainting goats did not begin with one person, one herd, or one moment in time.

2024-2025 | Building the HSFGR Website and “The Barn” Concept

As the public face of the registry began to take shape, HSFGR developed its Barn concept as a welcoming and practical way to organize education, forms, standards, and registry functions into meaningful spaces.

November 16, 2025 | Website Launch

The HSFGR website launched as the public face of the registry and its developing Barn concept.

2025 | Website Build, Verification Tools, and Public Database Work Resume

Work resumed on the HSFGR website and on searchable records, public verification tools, and the long-term build for public database access. Systems were developed to support electronic certificate verification, current-record confirmation, and a more organized registry structure.

September – October 2025 A Brief Pause | Consideration of Possible Paths

During the registry’s development, there was a brief pause in the Barn build while different paths were carefully considered, including whether preservation goals could be achieved within existing structures or whether a distinct framework was needed. After many in-depth discussions, it became clear that a separate preservation-focused registry path was the right and necessary direction, and the HSFGR Barn build moved forward.

January 2026 | Grange Hall, The Loft, and The Lounge Added

A thoughtful decision was made not to center the registry around a traditional social media presence. Instead, with the well-being and comfort of members in mind, three additional rooms were added to the Barn: Grange Hall, The Loft, and The Lounge. The Lounge serves as a members-only space where like-minded breeders can share ideas, discuss concerns, and connect more freely without the pressure that often comes with public social media spaces.

February 6, 2026 | Social Media Introduction of HSFGR

HSFGR was publicly introduced as a preservation-focused registry path for those who value heritage traits, soundness, stewardship, and long-term breed identity.

February 17, 2026 | Electronic Certificates Introduced

HSFGR issued its first electronic certificate as part of its commitment to practical, accessible registry tools and clear documentation.

2025-2026 | Continuing Development of Registry Systems

Work continued on forms, certificate workflows, verification tools, searchable records, and the broader structure needed to support long-term registry function and future member tools.

Ongoing | Growth and Refinement

HSFGR continues to grow through ongoing work on standards, registry tools, educational materials, historical clarification, member resources, and long-term preservation structure. The goal has always been to build with intention, not haste, and to create a registry that functions with purpose while honoring the broader heritage behind these goats.

HSFGR’s story is still being written, but its roots run much deeper than its launch date.
